Delta Dialogue Network Trip Report: Fort Chipewyan, AB February 10-12, 2015 Toddi Steelman, Principal Investigator - University of Saskatchewan Purpose of the trip • Toddi attended the Peace-Athabasca Delta Ecological Monitoring Program (PADEMP) Forum and Steering Committee Meeting, held in Fort Chipewyan, in order to present on the Delta Dialogue Network • “The purpose of the PADEMP Forum is to generate information sharing, engagement and collaboration between those conducting monitoring in the Delta, local Traditional Knowledge holders, youth and other community members.” – PADEMP PADEMP Forum • There were a number of different presentations at the Forum, on topics such as muskrat surveys, water contaminants, youth engagement, etc. • Presenters came from different backgrounds, including various government departments and Universities • A number of people attending the Forum raised concerns over the lack of community involvement in research and monitoring projects Evening Open House • In the evening of the first day of the Forum, there was a community supper and open house • Toddi Steelman presented on the Delta Dialogue Network – what we’ve done so far and what we are hoping to do next PADEMP Steering Committee Meeting • Toddi had the chance to get feedback from the PADEMP Steering Committee on the work we are planning on doing in the Peace-Athabasca Delta, such as looking for a community coordinator in Fort Chipewyan • There was a lot of interest in work we have done and are hoping to do with youth Stuart Macmillan, PADEMP Chairperson and amateur juggler! – We recently applied for more funding for a project that will work with youth and leaders involved in the culture camps currently being held in Cumberland House, in the Saskatchewan River Delta Committee Meeting continued • Committee members discussed the culture camps that are being held in the Peace-Athabasca Delta – this is an opportunity to connect youth from different deltas • It was suggested that going forward we should bring people together to learn about the different culture camps - what is being done, what students want to see more of, etc. • If the Delta Dialogue Network is going to hold a collaborative workshop in 2016, this would be a good opportunity to bring youth together Questions?
