Product Explanation Sheet
Product: Design a Hawaiian quilt square.
Materials: 2 contrasting pieces of colored paper, scissors, glue
Get Inspired
1. View different Hawaiian Flora.
2. Select the plant or flower you would like to use in your design.
Create Your Design
3. Select the color of paper for your design.
4. Follow the steps provided in step 16 of the WebQuest to create your design.
Make Your Quilt Square
5. Select the color of paper for your background.
6. Utilizing the same technique as you used for your pattern, make your background
paper an 8 ½” x 8 ½” square.
7. Center your design on your background paper.
8. Glue the design on to your background paper.
9. Optional – Draw in the echo lines of your pattern to replicate quilting.
Label Your Quilt Square
10. Include the following on the back of your quilt square.
• Name
• The plant that inspired your design
• The number of lines of symmetry
• A sketch showing where the lines of symmetry are
• The order of rotation symmetry
• The number of degrees the design has to be rotated before it matches the original
11. Review the evaluation rubric to see how your product will be evaluated.
