Safety Reminder:
General safety rules will be followed during the laboratory sessions. Safety glasses and closed toe shoes are required.
Shorts and sandals are not permitted. Additional safety gear that might be necessary will be provided. Please make sure
you are dressed properly for the labs and follow the safety rules. Individuals who do not comply with the safety regulations
will be asked to leave the lab, and that will result with the loss of attendance credit. There is a $2.00 charge for a pair of
safety glasses if you forget to bring yours. You are strongly urged to read through and understand the safety policy
document on the web site.
Project: Machining Project, 60 points
Phase 1:
Introduction to Teksoft
Phase 2:
Mold design
Phase 3:
Premachining the designed mold on a wax plate, modifications in design
Phase 4:
Final machining the mold on an Aluminum plate
Phase 5:
Injection molding the final part and report writing.
The report submission deadline is given on the first page of the syllabus. There is a required format for the project reports
and you can find the detailed information for that on the web page. You will be required to sign a “contributions” page on
the report and by doing so each group member’s individual contribution to the projects will be determined. This may have
a great effect on your overall lab grade. Therefore, teamwork of equal contribution and effort is strongly encouraged.
Lab Reports: 40 points total
You will be required to write a lab report for the individual labs in addition to the project. The reports are going to be
prepared by the group members and they will be due in one week. The reports will usually be the evaluation of the
collected data or a case study related to the specific lab.
Attendance:
Attendance is very important for this lab. You will lose 5 points if you miss one lab, 15 points if you miss two labs, and you
will fail the lab if you miss more than 2 labs. There is no way we can make up the lab after a lab is completed, since each
lab requires a new arrangement of equipment and a room assignment.
