Keynote Speaker Dr. Richard Olsen Innovative, Committed, and Inspired: 175 Years of Public Education in NC Professional Learning Day Dr. Rick Olsen is the Chair of the Department of Communication Studies at UNCW. He has a long personal history with the discipline of communication studies having participated in high school oratory competitions with FFA and competed in intercollegiate public speaking. He is an award-winning faculty member and also works with the USMC as part of their train the trainer programs to help new and experienced USMC trainers become better teachers. When not at work, Rick enjoys basketball and making music with his band, The Schoolboys.
