Recruiting and Managing Volunteers Fall 2014 (3hrs) This course offers the opportunity to: •

Learn valuable leadership and management skills and recieve professional mentoring Make connections and network with local leaders in class sessions Connect with international leaders in class through Skype Conduct a project with a nonprofit or public organization if desired Study with Dr. Jeffrey L. Brudney, UNCW Distinguished Professor of Innovation in the Nonprofit Sector, and Editor of Nonprofit and Voluntary Sector Quarterly. Dr. Brudney advises the United Nations Volunteers. This course addresses major issues concerning the involvement of volunteers in nonprofit and public organizations. It treats both “service volunteers,” who assist organizations in providing services, and “policy volunteers,” such as members of boards of directors, who provide overall leadership and direction to the organization. Class sessions include guest speakers and panels from the community as well as meetings with international leaders via Skype. Students may undertake projects in the community with the guidance of the instructor, or research topics of interest. This course meets the requirements for: Internship for the Public Administration Minor (as a Culminating Professional or Field Experience) This course is open to Graduate and Undergraduate students: Undergraduate Students can receive graduate credit!
