Group Retirement Fund Information Sessions
Sun Life Financial invites you to enroll in Pre-Retirement information sessions on
the University of Saskatchewan Group Retirement Fund. These sessions will
cover overall financial planning including options available to you with respect to
your accumulated pension.
These sessions will be of primary importance to members who are close to
normal retirement or considering early retirement; however, all members
are invited to attend.
The following information will be covered:
How the Canadian Government’s retirement system works,
including recent changes - Canada Pension Plan, Old Age Security,
and the Guaranteed Income Supplement
Sources of retirement income as well as expenses that may change
at retirement which will affect a retiree’s lifestyle
Investment and income options available to members based on the
University of Saskatchewan Group Retirement Fund

One-on-One Sessions with a Sun Life
Retirement Specialist
For the first time, Sun Life Financial is pleased to offer complimentary, in-person
meetings with Retirement Specialists, to University of Saskatchewan members
within 5 years of retirement. Their team of experienced, salaried Retirement
Specialists average over 12 years of industry experience each, and are licensed
and familiar with pension legislation across Canada.
The following information will be covered:




Needs analysis
Retirement Specialists conduct a needs analysis to better understand your:
Income needs
Risk tolerance
Need for protection products
Other circumstances, e.g., non-resident status, outside assets, DB pension, etc.



Education and guidance
Retirement Specialists offer information and guidance on legislative and tax
considerations, including:
Unlocking rules
Minimum and maximum payments
Basic tax considerations







They can also provide valuable information on:
Pros and cons of various income solutions, including taking DB pension income
vs. transferring the commuted value to a PRIF/RIF or annuity
Illustrations showing the depletion of savings under various scenarios

Determine the appropriate income solution and investments as applicable
