Attendance: Boomershine, Cilano, Cox, Fort, Gurganus, Moore, Orton, Pemberton, Sawrey, Siefert,
Taylor
Approval of 3/17/10 and 3/24/10 minutes.
Issues:
• How do we treat submissions where course SLOs are not linked with component SLOs on
syllabus?
• Can we create a labeled list of common problems/commons that we can use for scoring and
faculty can use for revision?
o Kim will work on this over the weekend and get back to us with a list.
• Can we make a new folder in SharePoint for all revised submissions that need to be rescored?
o Make subfolders by status? Kim will talk to Catherine about interfacing with CAS CC.
• We need more model forms/courses on website.
• Link CAS assessment website to US website with SLO hints.
Course Submission Updates:
•
Course Submission Review:
•
41: WMS 210: LODN: returned for revisions
o course SLOs need to be linked to Univ. Studies outcomes on syllabus
o SLOs need to be rephrased as SLOs rather than opportunities, need to be measurable
o insufficient rationale: self-awareness and self-understanding are lacking, lacks
comparison statement for diverse issues, focus on US (diverse nation vs. global society?)
not included in rationale, give rationale rather than catalogue description
o opportunities need to be linked to specific SLOs rather than same for all – more details
on WHAT they will be reading/researching/discussing
o assessments need to focus on each SLO, for example: attendance at an event does not
really assess all SLOs
•
42: WMS 212: LODN: returned for revisions
o see #41 – same comments
•
43: PRT 101: FL: returned for revisions
o no linked SLOs
o SLOs don’t match on syllabus and form
o missing catalogue description on syllabus
1
•
44: PRT 102: FL: returned for revisions
o see #43
•
45: PRT 201: FL: returned for revisions
o see #43
•
46: PRT 202: FL: returned for revisions
o see #43
•
47: HST 237: LODN: approved
•
48: HST 237: HPA: returned for revisions
o HPA2 doesn’t mention causation
o How do you assess advanced critical understanding?
o need measurable actions for SLOs and assessment (what is ‘greater’?)
•
49: HST 202: HPA: returned for revisions
o HPA3 SLO doesn’t address the construction of differences and similarities
o HPA3 SLO doesn’t match US SLO
o rewrite SLOs to ‘demonstrate understanding’ instead of ‘understand’
•
50: HST 290: IL: returned for revisions
o redo submission on US forms
•
51: HST 290: WI: returned for revisions
o redo submission on US forms
•
52: FRH 491: CC: declined
o needs student/peer interaction
o lacks synthesizing of speaking and listening skills
o cover form – nothing is checked for type of course (existing, new, etc)
o no US SLOs linked on syllabus
o SLOs on form don’t match those on syllabus
o assessment: how is ‘reading’ a means of assessment?
o syllabus lacks details
•
53: FRH 491: WI: declined
o will all instances of FRH 491 have the same SLOs and learning opportunities?
o syllabus needs to better describe the writing process and insist on substantial work and
interaction
o SLOs don’t match those on syllabus
o is reading a means of assessment?
o lack writing process-oriented activities
o perhaps create a capstone course
o syllabus lacks details
2
•
54: FRH 495: CC: returned for revision
o see comments on #52
o see comments on score sheet
o lack of specificity and standardization across sections
o no substantial capstone project
o reading = assessment?
•
55: FRH 495: WI: returned for revision
o lacks revision and writing process information
o needs to review writing intensive requirements and revise course to match, provide
more detail
o are all sections the same as what is on this syllabus?
o reading = assessment?
•
56: FRH 498: CC: declined
o see comments for #54 and on score sheets
•
57: FRH 498: WI: declined
o no evidence of rewriting or writing revision
o review what writing intensive component requires
o do they revise the journal entries after feedback?
o SLOs don’t match on form and syllabus
o opportunities and assessment are the same for every SLO
o would need to revise entire course content
•
58: SPN 202: FL: approved
•
59: FNA 102: AIL: returned for revisions
o see comments on score sheet
Note: Probably no meeting next week because of CAS meeting from 4 – 5:30pm.
