Submission guidelines Naming your files The text should be double-spaced and in Times New Roman 12-point font. Clear and consistent file-naming conventions are crucial. You must create a separate document for every major subdivision of the text: prelims sections individual chapters end matter sections (with individual items in individual files) any illustrations, figures, tables, and so on Name each document meaningfully and consistently using the following example formats: [author surname]_contents.doc [author surname]_list_illustrations.doc [author surname]_preface.doc [author surname]_ch01.doc [author surname]_appendix01.doc [author surname]_bibliography.doc [author surname]_list_fonts_used.doc Front matter manuscript includes: Title page - with author names and affiliations Dedication or epigraph* Lists of figures, maps, tables etc. List of contributors in alphabetical order * Foreword * Preface * Acknowledgments * Table of Contents Miscellaneous lists, e.g. abbreviations, notations, etc. * Any other items for the preliminary pages, e.g. conversion tables, chronology etc.* 1 Other text elements: Main text, including footnotes or endnotes Bibliography/References * Appendices * Figures separate from main text Figure captions separate from main text * = if applicable Artwork Figures should be sequentially numbered by chapter and figure number (for example, the third figure in chapter 1 will be “Figure 1.3”) and saved with the figure. Include placement indicators for all figures in numerical order in the manuscript at the ends of paragraphs where you want the art to appear. For example: [INSERT FIGURE 1.3 HERE] Permissions It is the author’s responsibility to clear copyright for all text and illustrative material that is not your own work. You should be clearing English language and world distribution rights and it should be made clear to the copyright holder you are seeking permission to use the material in an Open Access publication. Please keep a record of all permissions received and supply a collated version to the Managing Editor at the time of manuscript delivery. 2
