In addition to the courses listed above which satisfy the elective requirements for specific thematic areas, any GLY or
OCN course may be used as an elective. Selected courses in the field of physical geography (GGY 422, GGY 424, GGY
426, GGY 428, GGY 433, GGY 435, GGY 491, GGY 498, OR GGY 988) may also be used as electives. A total of 6
hours of any GLY, OCN, or GGY courses listed as 470, 491, 498, or 499 may be used toward the electives.
A “C” (2.00) or better average is required on all courses taken within the department, and a “C” (2.00) or better average
on all required courses above the 199-level in the department is required.
**In addition to completing the requirements for a major in geology and the other requirements of the Teacher Education
Program, the following courses are also required for licensure: BIO 201 and 202, GLY 150, PHY 260 and GGY 230.
Students planning to pursue licensure should apply to the WCE as soon as admission requirements are met (typically in
the sophomore year) and plan their programs in regular consultation with their advisors. Teacher licensure requirements
are established at the state level and may be changed by the state at any time. For more information on the Teacher
