USAC Procedures and Review/Approval Process January 2015 The University Studies Advisory Committee is committed to a transparent, fair and consistent review process for all proposals. The review process is outlined below: • • • • • • • • • All proposals submitted to the USAC are public and available for review to the UNCW community Sub-committees have been formed to improve the consistency of scoring by allowing the same members of the committee to review proposals submitted for given University Studies categories At least two USAC members from category sub-committees are assigned to review each proposal using rubrics available on the US website The reviewers are given two weeks to review their assigned proposals and submit their reviews through Select Survey to the committee chair The reviewers’ ratings are compiled for each US component and all proposals are discussed by the committee as a whole prior to making a decision Proposals that received consistent 3-4 range scoring are generally recommended and sent to the faculty senate as a motion to be approved Proposals that receive low (1-2 range scoring) scores from reviewers are considered carefully by the committee at large; borderline cases are sent to another group of reviewers for a second round of review before coming back to the full committee Proposals needing revisions and modification are sent back to department chairs by the USAC chair with the reviewers’ feedback Proposals re-submitted by departments will be re-considered by the original reviewers and then discussed by the full committee.
