Graduate studies in applied limnology The Global Institute for Water Security is seeking one or more graduate students (MES or PhD) interested in applied limnology. The successful student will work with Dr. Helen Baulch (http://homepage.usask.ca/~hmb925/) on research opportunities ranging from understanding the effects of climate change on lake ecosystems to characterizing agricultural effects on water quality (and assessing mitigation options), to understanding bloom dynamics in eutrophic lakes. Limnological facilities within GIWS include a series of high frequency sensor systems (nutrients, chemistry metabolism, algal sensors) suited for use in lakes or rivers, and a growing aquatic chemistry lab with facilities for greenhouse gas analyses, membraneinlet mass spectrometry, water chemistry, and access to microscopy, and stable isotope facilities. The successful student will have a lab and outdoor experience, or, strong quantitative skills. Experience in limnology is preferred, but not required. Interested applicants are encouraged to contact Dr. Baulch with a copy of their CV, resume and a cover letter at helen.baulch@usask.ca. Formal applications can then be submitted to the School of Environment and Sustainability. Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled, but early applications will be favored. www.usask.ca/water www.usask.ca/sens www.usask.ca/water
