Materials • • • Clipboards Copies of the student worksheet Writing utensil and crayons Teacher Preparation: • • • • notify the main office that you will be outside for a certain amount of time be sure students are appropriately dressed for the weather gather all needed materials so you don’t have to run back inside classroom behavior guidelines are the same outdoors as they are in the classroom Procedure 1. Students should have been introduced to colors and color words before doing this activity outside. 2. Each student needs a clipboard, worksheet, writing utensil, and access to crayons. 3. Students should color the box each color word is located in to match that color word…So for example, color in the box that says “green” with a green crayon. 4. Students will look for objects in nature that match the color words on the worksheet. 5. Once objects are found that match the appropriate color, students can draw the object or write its name next to the shaded color box. Further Enrichment • • Use paint samples from the hardware store and have students match objects in nature to the different hues on the paint chip. Count the number of similar objects in each color and have students make a graph for each color. For example: how many students used grass, leaves, etc for green?
