In this lesson, students will go outside to locate objects that match the shape words on their worksheet.

notify the main office that you will be outside for a certain amount of time
be sure students are appropriately dressed for the weather
gather all needed materials so you don’t have to run back inside
classroom behavior guidelines are the same outdoors as they are in the classroom

Students should have been introduced to shapes and shape words before doing this activity outside.
Each student needs a clipboard, worksheet, and writing utensil.
Students will look for objects in nature that match the shape words on the worksheet.
Students should draw an example of an object they see outside that matches one of the shape words.
Further Enrichment

Have the students share what objects they chose for each shape and why that object made them think
of that particular shape.
Discuss if students noticed any patterns. For example: Were there any trees shaped line triangles all in
a row? Were all of the windows on the school building in the shape of a rectangle?
