Second quarter/first semester is over! You’re halfway through the school
year! This also means more reminders!
1) The Monthly Student Activity Reposts are due February 1, 2013!
2) Make sure you’re sending in the required signature forms: Authorization to Provide Grade Report form; Parent/Student contract form;
UWSP Camp Health form (make sure both sides are completed, as
necessary); Photograph, Video, Audio, and Swimming General Release
form; and, the Agreement for Assumption of Risk, Indemnification, Release, and Consent for Emergency Treatment form. Even though
these aren’t due until March 1, 2013, the sooner you get them
turned in, the less likely you’ll forget to have them signed and
sent back to us!

Reducing Test Anxiety
Test anxiety happens to everyone, and occurs when you don’t need the added stress. This uneasiness can cause a HUGE problem on
test performance, cause extreme nervousness, memory lapses, and other symptoms. Below are some guidelines that help reduce test
taking anxiety.

Be well prepared for the test – it’s the best way to reduce test taking anxiety.

Try to maintain a positive attitude while preparing for the test and during the test.

Get a good night’s sleep before the test day.

Space your studying time out over a couple of weeks (and if that’s not possible, at least a couple of
days).

Exercising a couple for days before the test can help reduce built up stress.

If allowed, chew gum during the test to help relieve your anxiety.

If possible, show up to class early so you won’t be rushed before the test.

Stay relaxed by taking several deep breaths slowly before, during and after the test to relax yourself

Read the directions carefully. Some teachers give points for trying to solve a questions (math).

Skim through the test so you have a good idea of how to pace yourself.

Do the simple questions first to help build your confidence for the harder questions.

If you don’t know the answer to a question, skip it (you can go back to it later, if you have time)

Write down important formulas, facts, definitions, key facts in the margins of the test so you won’t worry about forgetting them.

Focus on one question at a time, don’t let your mind wander.

If you’re still experiencing test anxiety, go to your counselor for help.

Answers for ACT: Question 1, wonder; Question2104 pounds, Explanation of
answer: Let X = Susan’s weight. Then 2x + 12 + Peter’s weight. Therefor x + 2x
+ 12 = 150 pounds. Then 3x = 138, so x = 46. Multiply X * 2 and add 12 to get
104 pounds. Question3, Selection.
