ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Circle the appropriate response:
I have attended an Information Session on “Admission to Teacher Education.”
I have currently completed 45 semester hours of coursework with GPA of at least 2.75.
For transfer students: I have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.75 based on a minimum of
15 hours completed at Winthrop University.
I have completed these education core courses (or substitutes) with a grade of “C or better”
in each course: EDUC 101, 200, PHED 590, EDCO 201, 202, and 203.
I have passed all three portions of the PRAXIS I, or I have satisfied the testing requirement
with minimum scores on the SAT, SAT I, or ACT.
I have provided evidence of 25 hours of recent, successful, supervised experience working
with K-12 students for which certification is sought, or I have completed the high school
Teacher Cadet Program, or I have participated in the Teaching Fellows Program.

In addition to the above requirements, all PETE teacher candidates must meet the following requirements:
1. A “C” or better in PHED 112.
2. Achieve and maintain the healthy zones on all components of health related fitness as measured by
Fitnessgram.*
3. Demonstrate competency in selected invasion, net/wall, target, and striking//fielding games as
measured by a B- or better in PHED 234, 247, & 248.*
4. Demonstrate proficiency in the six fundamental movement skills as measured by the South Carolina
Assessment criteria.*
Before enrolling in EDUC 402 and PHED 490, teacher candidates must:
1. Achieve a “C” or better in PHED 566 and PHED 591.
2. Pass Praxis II (0095: Physical Education Content and Design).
*Accommodations will be made for teacher candidates with documented physical disabilities.
