COD Wins ACF Illinois State Competition
College of DuPage culinary students took first place at the
American Culinary Federation’s (ACF) Student Team Hot
Food Illinois State Competition. Five COD students
competed against past national winners Joliet Junior
College and Kendall College. The event included a skills
salon where students were evaluated on butchery, filleting
and knife cut, followed by a cooking competition
consisting of a four-course menu, including one classical
course assigned by the ACF and three dishes chosen by
the team. COD team members Shin Balagtas, Frederick

PN for Military Medical
Corpsman Certificate
Veterans who have
completed their medical
corpsman training can now
receive additional
coursework that will prepare
them to earn their Licensed
Practical Nurse credential. The new PN for Military Medical
Corpsman certificate program addresses differences between
the Medical Education and Training Campus (METC) Basic
Medical Technician Corpsman Program and a practical
nursing program as determined by the Illinois Nurse Practice
Act. Upon successful completion of the certificate, veterans
will be prepared to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination to
become an LPN. “This important undertaking is addressing a
need that is being seen across the country,” said Vickie
Gukenberger, Associate Dean of Nursing and Health
Sciences. “The new certificate acknowledges the experience
of veterans who have completed their training in the military
and fills in the gaps.” Read More
