The College will unveil its new brand at two info
sessions for students, faculty and staff on Tuesday,
Feb. 25, at 10 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. in SRC 2000
(all attendees will receive a special gift!). Eighteen
months in the making, the new brand will create
consistency in messaging and will communicate a
strong message about the College’s current success
and future goals as the number one choice for higher
education in Illinois. Also, please make sure to stop by
the Branding Celebration from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in
the SSC Atrium. We look forward to seeing you there!
Career Fair Draws 500-Plus to COD Campus
Heavy Saturday snow didn’t keep job seekers away
from the second annual College of DuPage Career Fair,
sponsored by the Chicago Tribune. Approximately 518
individuals attended the fair, drawn by the promise of
open positions listed by 68 area employers. Ranging
from finance to manufacturing to hospitality and health
care, interviewers listed the total number of interviews
conducted and/or scheduled for a future date at 308 and
a total number of potential hires of 817. In addition,
hundreds of students and community members attended
the five pre-fair workshops. Congratulations to
Marketing Director Laurie Jorgensen and Career
Services Manager Steve Gustis and all the volunteers
who made this event an enormous success again this

Students Selected to Present at
National Anthropology Event
Three College of DuPage
students have been selected to
present papers from their
independent research projects at
the 74th annual meeting of the
Society for Applied Anthropology
(SFAA). Jonathan Kaye, Karin
Machalova and Elizabeth Nwokobia, each currently enrolled
in the Business Anthropology certificate program, were
selected by the SFAA to join other student and professional
researchers from around the globe to present their findings at
the society's annual meeting in Albuquerque, New Mexico, from
March 18 to 22. Read More

Black Student Leadership Conference
Glenbard West High School Dean of Students Toriano
Griggs established a genuine connection with more than
440 students during his keynote address, “The Road to
Success, A Personal Challenge,” at the inaugural Black
Student Leadership Conference held this week at COD.
High school sophomores, juniors and undecided seniors
attended presentations, including an Introduction to
College, Careers and Majors, and Understanding College
Costs, followed by a panel presentation on college options
and a College Fair with representatives from 40 different

New Language Immersion
Course in Berlin, Germany
COD has added a new
language immersion program to
Berlin, Germany, which will take
place from Friday, May 30, to
Sunday, June 29. The deadline
to apply for this trip is March 1.
This program will offer more than four weeks of immersion in the
German language and will cover the history and abundant culture of

‘American Promise’ Documentary
PBS premiered American Promise, a documentary spanning 13
years in the lives of two middle-class Brooklyn boys earlier this
month. Motion Picture/Television instructor Margaret Byrne
worked as a cinematographer and editor on the film, which
received the Special Jury Award for Achievement in Filmmaking at
the Sundance Film Festival. PBS will stream the film free through
March 5 on the POV website.

Kudos to…COD Homeland Security Associate Dean
Tom Brady and Homeland Security/SLEA Manager
Mike Casey who hosted more than 120 members of the
Milton Township Community Emergency Response Team
(CERT) for a Call-Out Exercise in the Homeland Security
Education Center at the College. During the exercise,
CERT members received notification of a crisis and were
directed to report to the street scene location in the HEC
where an inventory of CERT members’ emergency
response backpacks was taken. In addition, presentations
were made by Tom Brady as well as James Joseph,
Director of the DuPage County Office of Emergency
Management, and John Zaruba, DuPage County Sheriff.

More Kudos to…WDCB 90.9fm Manager Dan Bindert and
the radio station’s team for an abundance of recent news
coverage over the last several weeks. Chicago Tribune
columnist Howard Reich wrote an article on WDCB’s recent
resurrection of Marian McPartland’s “Piano Jazz” radio
program and ran an update on WDCB 90.9fm’s programming.
In addition, Chicago Tribune columnist Robert Feder posted a
blog article about the addition of Rick O’Dell’s “The Sunday
Jazz Brunch” to WDCB’s programming lineup.

Therapist Assistant student Tammy Lifka, who was featured
on the cover of the January issue of Suburban Life magazine.
The article highlights her training process for the Boston
Marathon and decision to return to college to pursue a healthrelated career.

and Outreach, who represented College of DuPage on a
panel regarding “Data Across the Institution” at the Illinois
Council on Continuing Higher Education (ICCHE) Annual
Conference last week in Chicago.

Walden, who was featured in an article in the Naperville Sun
focusing on upcoming bridal trends.
Even More Kudos to…Art Professor Marina Kuchinski who
was selected to participate in The John Michael Kohler Arts
Center's Arts/Industry residency program this summer. Marina
is one of 16 artists selected from 411 applicants to receive
travel, housing, an honorarium and featured exhibitions at the
John Michael Kohler Arts Center, as well as 24/7 access to
the Kohler Co. Foundry and Pottery facilities.
Adade Wheeler Woman of Distinction Award Nominations
In celebration of Women’s History Month, College of DuPage is
accepting online nominations for the 2014 Woman of Distinction
Award through Friday, Feb. 28. Named for former COD History
Professor Adade Wheeler, the award has been given annually
since 1983 to individuals who have made significant contributions
to the personal and professional advancement of women through
education, advocacy and motivation.
Part-Time Preschool Registration
The Early Childhood Center is accepting registration for the 20142015 school year, which begins Aug. 25. The Early Childhood
Center offers a program that encourages exploration and problem
solving and includes activities in art, math, literacy, music, science,
large and small motor activities, and campus field trips. For more

Health Power Profile – Dates Still Open Feb. 18 and 19
Sign up now for COD’s Annual Health Power Profile offered
through OPTUMHealth (formerly Wellness Inc.). Dates are still
available in SRC 200 from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday and
Wednesday, Feb. 18 and 19. The profile is free for benefited
employees and spouses covered under COD’s medical plan, as
well as for CODAA members (employees only). Part-time classified
and faculty or spouses not on a COD medical plan can pay $71 for

Purchasing Dates
For an item to be recommended for purchasing approval to the
Board of Trustees at the May 22, 2014, Board meeting, all
specifications, rationales, requisitions and IT equipment reviews
must be in Purchasing by Thursday, March 13, 2014. Click here
