Oct. 10, 2014 Laps With the Chaps Next Weekend Oct. 18! If you haven’t already registered, make sure to do so for this year’s Laps With the Chaps 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 18. The KidZone activities, food and other fun events start at noon in the parking lot next to the Stadium, with the race beginning at 4 p.m. Also, there’s still time to vote for which song should begin the race on the home page poll at www.cod.edu/5K (choices are “Eye of the Tiger” by Survivor, “Runnin’ Down a Dream” by Tom Petty and “Hey ya” by Outkast). AND don't forget to visit the first-ever Food Truck Rally in DuPage County from noon to 6 p.m. Race participants receive a $2 voucher to sample the tastes of the rally but everyone is welcome. BOSI Global CIO Joe Abraham Visits COD Mentees from the College’s new E2 Emerging Entrepreneurs Mentorship Program recently had an opportunity to meet with Joe Abraham, founder and CIO of bosiDNA, who discussed his BOSI assessment and how personality traits transfer to being a successful entrepreneur. The College’s E2 program accepts students from any discipline who provide through an application process an idea or concept for a start-up business and would like to be mentored by a successful entrepreneur during the 2014-2015 academic year. This year’s E2 accepted 16 students who will by the end of the program be equipped with many valuable entrepreneurial and experiential tools. Read More McAninch Arts Center Earns LEED Certification The McAninch Arts Center at has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. “COD has been committed to incorporating green building practices into all of its renovation and construction projects during the last decade,” said Julie Carey, COD Project Manager in Facilities Planning and Development. “The MAC was no exception, and we are proud that another College facility has received this designation.” Read More London Fire Brigade Station Manager Visits HEC Station Manager Gary Woulds of the London Fire Brigade recently conducted a workshop in the William J. Bauer Mock Court Room at the Homeland Security Education Center. Click here for more photos. Manager Woulds toured the HEC and provide a workshop to more than 40 attendees that described the fire response and recovery to the suicide bombing attacks on the transportation system in London on July 7, 2005, which killed 52 civilians. Woulds was also involved in coordinating municipal efforts during the “BlackBerry Riots” in 2011 that overtook London and other towns throughout England. These civil riots were coordinated through the use of mobile devices and social media. Woulds provided an introspective firstperson account of these events and how the fire service responded to them. Following his tour of the HEC, and after learning about Phase II construction of the Homeland Security Education Institute, which is currently under way, Manager Woulds was so impressed that he agreed to come back to provide a full day workshop for first responders and other personnel in 2015.
