Chocolate Challenge during the national Pastry Live

Hundreds of Hurrahs!
Hundreds of encouraging notes were written this week to cheer
on Chaparral Football Team members who will break through
the banner to kick-off the first Homecoming Week game at
COD in 40 years. Free food, games, giveaways, inflatables and
other activities start this Saturday, Sept. 27, at 11 a.m. in the PE
Parking lot adjacent to the stadium. All students, staff, faculty
and community members are invited to attend, then stay for the
game when the Mighty Chaps take on the Georgia Military
College Bulldogs at 1 p.m. Free noisemakers and pom pons will
help the crowd cheer on the Chaps. In addition, enjoy a halftime show featuring the College’s Spirit Team. See you there!

Dental Impressions
Students are visibly impressed with the hands-on
instruction available for Dental Hygiene students at
College of DuPage. Approximately 20 students, five
instructors and translators from Kobe Tokiwa
University Junior College recently visited the Colab and
received a tour and information about the program
from Dental Hygiene Professor Patti Belmonte. The
students and faculty members traveled from Japan to
learn about hands-on instruction and equipment
available at community colleges in the U.S.
COD Cares Hosts Lee Denim Days Oct. 2
Please join the fight against breast cancer and join
Team COD by clicking here. Then wear your
favorite jeans on Thursday, Oct. 2 (with some pink
of course). Also, please meet at 2 p.m. at the SRC
Grand Staircase near the cafeteria for a group
photo. Since its inception in 1996, Lee National
Denim Day participants have raised more than $91
million for the fight against breast cancer and with your help, we
hope to add even more to that total. Funds will support the
American Cancer Society and their breast cancer programs and

More kudos to…Library Professor Debra J. Kakuk Smith
whose article “Online Caregiving Resources” was recently
published in the Journal of Consumer Health (JCHI).
Smith’s article is based on her online Care Giving
Resources Guide originally created to support COD’s
employee caregiver support group. The guide quickly
expanded to include local, state, and national resources
supporting not only COD employees, but also local,
regional and national caregivers. Join Smith, an
experienced consumer health advocate, for a hands-on,
45-minute Caregiving workshop on Wednesday, Dec. 3,
from 3 to 3:45 p.m. in SRC 2024 (Library). The session is
jointly offered by the TLC as part of the SOS Health and
Wellness Workshop Series.
More Kudos to…Dr. Jean Kartje, Sean Warren-Crouch,
Evelyn Spagnuolo, Adela Meitz and Angela Nackovic
who hosted the first of four sessions for the Student
Leadership Academy funded through the Carl D. Perkins
Career and Technical Education Improvement Act of 2006.
More than 150 students from 16 schools who attended
learned about college and career readiness skills. They
also received information from local business professionals
on resumes, cover letter writing and communication skills.
