‘Chapions’ are Champions
COD’s Chappy mascot congratulates members of the
“Chapions,” who took first place in this year’s Chapa-palooza relay race. The course required dart
agility, tricycle skills, ducky fishing finesse and more.

‘I Am’ Campaign Continues…
The COD “I Am” campaign is a reminder that everyone on
campus is responsible for student success. In addition to
latest batch of posters featuring administrators, faculty
and staff, Multimedia Services has produced an “I Am”
video that outlines the tenets of this important initiative.

O.N.E. (Outstanding New Employee) Award during last
week’s In-Service/Convocation activities. During the
ceremony, additional team recognitions were provided,

Programs in Illinois
COD is one of only two
colleges in Illinois to offer a
Kitchen and Bath Design
program that is accredited by
the National Kitchen and
Bath Association (NKBA). The NKBA endorsement not only
ensures the quality and relevance of the program, it also adds an
additional practical element to the already hands-on Interior
Design program. The quality of the interior design program at
COD has not gone unnoticed by area employers, said Assistant

More Kudos to…adjunct art instructor David Linneweh
who organized a fantastic group of visual artists for an
exhibition called “Second Nature” at Broward College in
Davie Florida. The college invited him to lecture about the
artworks in the exhibition and to also discuss his role with the
art podcast that he created nearly 2 years ago called Studio
Break.
More Kudos to…Student Nicole Kramer, who has
Friedreich's ataxia, a debilitating, degenerative neuromuscular disorder, for riding her new custom cycle through
the southern suburbs in a recent Ride Ataxia fundraiser.

Waterleaf will host a Duckhorn
Vineyards wine dinner on
Thursday, Sept. 26, at 6:30 p.m.
The four-course prix fixe meal
will be paired with distinctive
wines from this Napa Valley,

GMO Event Sept. 12
COD, in partnership with Illinois
Right to Know GMO and the
Institute for Responsible
Technology (IRT), will host an
educational awareness event on
proposed state legislation
regarding genetically modified food labeling from 7 to 9 p.m. on
Thursday, Sep. 12, in the CHC amphitheater. The event includes a
screening of “Genetic Roulette,” a film that presents evidence of a
correlation between rising disease rates in the U.S. and increased
consumption of genetically engineered foods. Read More

Global Education Initiatives
The Global Education Advisory
Committee has announced the deadlines
for “Funding Global Education
Initiatives: On-Campus and Abroad” for
academic year 2013-2014. These funds
are designed to enhance the global
education of our campus community,
both through on-campus activities and international
opportunities. Two rounds of funding will be awarded. Please
submit an application by either Friday, Sept. 6, for fall
semester initiatives OR Friday, Jan. 17, for spring semester
initiatives to the Field and Experiential Learning/Global
Education/Study Abroad office, BIC 3509.
“MOOCs: Disruption AND Opportunity Sept. 10
Stop by this event on Tuesday, Sept. 10, from 3 to 4 p.m. in
BIC 3528 for a discussion on the forces behind the advent of
MOOCs and why and how you can design, develop and launch
a MOOC from your campus. Ray Schroeder will lead the
discussion. Ray is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Online
Learning and founding director of the Center for Online
Learning, Research, and Service at the University of Illinois

Board of Trustees at the Nov. 21, 2013, Board meeting, all
specifications, rationales, requisitions and IT equipment reviews
must be in Purchasing by Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013. Click here
