May 11, 2012 COD’s 45th Annual Commencement Tonight College of DuPage will host its 45th annual Commencement ceremony tonight, Friday, May 11, at 7 p.m. in the PE Arena. Outstanding Full-Time Faculty Sally Fairbank Sally Fairbank, professor and coordinator of Paralegal Studies, has been named the Overall Outstanding Faculty Member for 2011-2012. Representing the Business and Technology Division, Fairbank will receive a $1,000 award from the COD Foundation, which annually recognizes outstanding teaching achievement at the College. The Glen Ellyn resident said she has always been fascinated by the legal system. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Northwestern University, a J.D. from Washington University in St. Louis and a master’s degree in Education from Northern Illinois University. “I want to play a role in building lives,” she said. “I value the uniqueness of each individual student, and I want to lead all of them into this field of knowledge so they can have successful and rewarding careers in a field that I love.” Read More Outstanding PT Faculty Bärbel E. Thoens-Masghati Bärbel E. Thoens-Masghati, adjunct German language faculty, has been named COD’s Overall Outstanding Part-Time Faculty Member for 2011-12. The Naperville resident was born in Nauen, located outside of Berlin in what was then East Germany. Her parents, who were political refugees, brought ThoensMasghati to the United States through the World Christian Organization. “The world does not revolve around one language or culture, so it’s important to embrace and learn more about other cultures, even if it’s learning a few simple things,” she said. The evening will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a lecture and tasting of five Portuguese wines in the CHC Amphitheatre, followed by an exclusive five-course prix fixe dinner at Waterleaf fine-dining restaurant. KUDOS to…Speech Professor Marco Benassi whose original readers theatre entitled WOO (Windows Of Opportunity) won “Best Script” at ARTa, the American Readers Theatre Association's national tournament held last weekend in Los Angeles. The production itself, directed by Benassi and featuring three DePaul University students, including former COD student Elsa Guenther from Wheaton, took 5th place. With 23 entries, ARTa was the largest readers theatre tournament in the country this year.
