Exciting Human Services Program Updates
The COD Human Services program has repackaged its
degrees and certificates to better reflect the needs of both
students and employers.
Starting this fall, the
program will pare its
Associate in Applied Science
degree offerings to two: the
Human Services Generalist
and Addictions Counseling.
Students pursuing the
Generalist degree can also complete one of four certificates –
Applied Gerontology, Corrections Counseling, Residential
Child Care and Domestic/Family Violence. Psychiatric
Rehabilitation and Veterans Counseling will continue as
stand-alone certificates. The changes allow for greater
flexibility, said Maryann Krieglstein, professor and
program coordinator. “COD is known for its strong Human
Services program, and we are determined to keep it that
way,” she said. “Our students have people’s lives in their
hands. So we are always monitoring the field. These updates
give our students the best options.” Read More

O'Keefe received an exclusive invitation to attend the 2012
Technology, Environment and Design (TED) Global Summit. He
is one of just 1,500 participants worldwide selected to travel to
Edinburgh, Scotland, for this year's event. “To be chosen to
attend this conference was a great honor,” O’Keefe said. “The
caliber of people attending was amazing.” From June 25 to 29,
O'Keefe joined a unique collection of individuals from around the
world in a discussion about the impacts of social media on the
industry. “This year's topic really dug into the issue of online
privacy,” he said. “I recently read the results of a study that said
more people are worried about online privacy than about losing
their job. It's become such a huge topic, and social media really
has changed the way we think about this issue.” Read More
