News from the Buzzard’s Nest: I can’t believe October is here and we have been in school for well over a month! We are in full swing and starting to dig into the meat of things! Here are some highlights about what we are learning! Reading: *Reading with stamina *Selecting “just right” books *Making good choices during Reading Workshop *Monitoring our comprehension while reading *Self-correcting miscues when they don’t look and sound right *Strategies we are practicing: picture clues, 1st sound, context clues Writing: *Narrative writing-writing stories about our lives (we are moving away from “I like” stories *rereading and beginning to edit *adding details to our words and pictures Math: *Sums of numbers up to 10 (or higher) *Solving problems using 10 frames, pictures and number sentences *Proving thinking beyond just the procedure *Comparing numbers: less than, equal, greater than *Multiple ways to make numbers (7: 7+0, 3+4, 6+1…) *Graphing: reading and interpreting data (comparing data by answering questions, determining how many more, less) Social Studies: *Constitution Day *School Rules *How to be successful as a learner and classmate *Cooperating with our peers and respecting differences Science: *Reviewed Seasons and characteristics *Life Cycles *What are Scientists *Observing the qualities of an apple and the changes over the course of the week, by using our senses. Writing and drawing about our observations. DONATIONS: If you have any extra disinfecting wipes at home, we would love them here at school. We use them several times a week to wipe down tables and other surfaces to keep our room clean. Thank you!
