American Chemical Society- Project Seed 2011 June 13, 2011 – August 8, 2011 The purpose of Project SEED is to offer high school a unique opportunity to spend a summer conducting hand-on research with a scientist in a laboratory setting. In order to provide the best learning environment possible, and ensure the safety and well being of all participants, we will strictly enforce the rules listed below. Project Seed Interns Jeremy Lore –Waller High School - Prairie View University (Paid by PV) Bailu Qian – Cypress Woods High School – Prairie View University Nathaly Garcia – Elsik High School – Prairie View University Alma Acosta – Elsik High School – Prairie View University Project Seed Internship Four $500.00 stipends totaling $2,000.00 will be paid on the following dates: 6/27/11, 7/11/11, 7/25/11, and 8/5/11. At the end of project, after the student has submitted a final written project report to the coordinator and completed an online follow-up survey through the ACS website, the interns will be issued a final check in the amount of $500.00. Mr. Walker will be responsible for paying Jeremy Lore his stipend. The driver, Lemil Dabney will also be paid by Expectations of the Project Seed Student An intern who breaks any of the Project Seed rules or does not participate in a positive way, e.g. watching face book, my space, twitter or other inappropriate computer usage without prior mentor permission will be terminated from the program. The Project Seed student: 1. Will be asked to perform research that may involve making new compounds, collecting data or working with instruments or computers, 2. Will be assigned to a research mentor, who will direct the student’s activities for an assigned project, 3. Will report to the assigned research mentor to perform research tasks under the guidance of the mentor or other assigned mentor, 4. Will be engaged and interested, 5. Will follow all safety requirements as posted or directed in the laboratory and campus area, 6. Must be in the research lab during the times required by your research mentor, Anyone who willfully misses work without prior approval will be terminated from the Project Seed program immediately. 7. Will maintain a notebook (issued by coordinator) for all lab work associated with the assigned project, 8. Must complete a detailed written report and survey concerning your experience before receiving the final payment of stipend. The deadline to submit this information is August 15, 2011. 9. Will obey all school and Project Seed rules and regulations. Additionally, no alcohol or illegal drug consumption is permitted. Anyone who uses alcohol, illegal drugs while on campus will be terminated immediately!
