August 28, 2015 Dear Kindergarten Families, Welcome to Scottish Corners! We had a very successful first day of school with our full class here. Thank you for all that you have done to make transitioning to school easy for your child. I am very excited about the great year we have ahead of us. Monday, we will gather by the flagpole at the front of the school and walk in together as a class. This is a good time for your child to say his or her goodbyes to you and join their new classmates. I will slowly encourage the children to become independent about walking to the room themselves. Starting Wednesday, September 6, I will meet them inside the commons, slowly moving closer to our room as the week comes to an end. By the end of the week, they will meet me at our classroom doorway all by themselves! Please remember that your child needs to WEAR HIS OR HER SUNSHINE NAME TAG next week. On the back of the nametag please include information about your child’s transportation home at the end of his/her school day (Please make sure I have your child’s bus number). Please let me know, in writing, if your child’s transportation home changes. Be sure that your child BRINGS A BACKPACK EACH DAY to school. Include his or her name, address, phone number, and “way home” INSIDE the book bag. It is very important to remember to check and send back your child’s backpack daily because I will be sending home completed work, calendars, projects your child has worked on, and many other important pieces of information. Curriculum Night will be Thursday, September 3rd. We are requesting that the morning and afternoon families come from 6:00-6:45pm. Kindergarten parents and teachers will meet in the Commons. This is an adults only meeting. During our Curriculum Night, you will become more informed about our classroom routines, homework schedule, etc. Kindergartners often sit on the floor and frequently enjoy messy projects. Please have your child dress appropriately for school activities. You will also want to know that our room can get very chilly. I always have a sweater on hand to put on in case it gets cold. If you haven’t done so already, please fill out and send back to school any forms you received at Kindergarten Walk-Through in your child’s Partner Pad. These forms need to be filled out and returned as soon as possible. Your child is bringing his or her Partner Pad home today (green-AM/red-PM) and will need to return it to school every day. This is a communication tool for parents and teacher. In place of sending me individual notes, you will use this folder to write down important information, questions, and concerns and I will do the same. Please check it EVERY DAY and return it in your child’s backpack. I will check it daily as well. In the past I have posted my weekly newsletter onto my teacher web page. This year I am going to attempt something different and try setting up my own blog. It is a work in progress, so for the meantime, continue to check my web page for updates. (http://www.dublinschools.net/michellehubert.aspx) Once my blog is ready to be rolled out, I will send you an invitation to join and you can check in on all the exciting things we are doing in the kindergarten classroom. Thank you and welcome to kindergarten at Scottish Corners! I am eager to work with You all this year! Mrs. Michelle Hubert hubert_michelle@dublinschools.net
