Scarlet and Gray Newsletter October 5th to 9th, 2015 \ Volume 19, Issue 7 Monday We greeted classmates, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. The morning class had a safety drill (fire drill and reverse evacuation drill). We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. Our kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster and we wrote a sentence about him/her using shared writing. We learned our new popcorn word, ‘like’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘Days of the Week’. We heard our letter ‘u’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat, made our ‘u’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We learned the difference between a letter, a word and a sentence and then we counted letters and words in our ‘u’ book. We read My Friend Is Sad!, Edwina, the Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct and Time to Say Please all by Mo Willems. We illustrated our class version of A, My Name is Alice, We read Do Unto Otters. We had recess. We read the first chapter of Poppleton. We visited the first of four new math stations. Tuesday We greeted each other, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week brought in something for science. We wrote a sentence about him/her and another sentence about his/her science image using shared writing. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We read I Am Invited to a Party! by Mo Willems. We heard our letter ‘b’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat, made our ‘b’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We counted how many letters and words in our book. We read Cat the Cat, What’s That? by Mo Willems. We had recess. We read a chapter in Poppleton. We went to the second math workshop station. The AM class went to library. The PM class matched rhyming words. Wednesday We greeted friends, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. Our kindergartner of the week brought something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about her using shared writing. We read Are You Ready to Play Outside? by Mo Willems. We heard our ‘r’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We made our one ‘r’ books. We read Let’s Say Hi to Friends Who Fly! by Mo Willems. We had recess. We finished Poppleton. The AM class did our third math station, wrote an‘I like’ sentence, and did the matching rhyming words activity. The PM class had library. Thursday We greeted one another, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We subitized ten frames to 5 and counted backwards from 20. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote our final sentence about her using shared writing. We each wrote our own sentence about him/her. We read I Love My New Toy! by Mo Willems. We heard our ‘f’ presentation felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat. We made our ‘f’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We did shared reading, counted letters and words in our big book and read What’s Your Sound, Hound the Hound? We had recess. The morning class sorted letters, words and sentences. The afternoon class did the third math station. Friday We greeted each another, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from a mystery numbers. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We had Family Friday. We highlighted our new popcorn word in and read I Like. We read I Will Surprise My Friend! and Leonardo The Terrible Monster, both by Mo Willems. We got pointers to keep in our book bin to help us point when we read. The PM class also got pointers to keep in our book boxes to use at home. The AM class will get theirs on Monday. We did fitness and had recess. We did our final math station. We had Guidance.
