Scarlet and Gray Newsletter October 26th to 29th, 2015 \ Volume 19, Issue 10 Monday We greeted classmates, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. We subitized numbers 0-­‐6 and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We learned our new popcorn word, ‘to’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘Halloween’. We heard our ‘x’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat and made our ‘x’ books. We read Let’s Go for a Drive, A Big Guy Took My Ball, and I’m a Frog, all by Mo Willems. We heard Newsminutes presentations. We read Punctuation Takes a Vacation. We compared versions of The Three Little Pigs. We did shared reading and read Five Little Pumpkins and Clifford’s First Halloween. Wednesday We greeted friends, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class pledge and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We read our popcorn words. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. We read I Will Take a Nap! by Mo Willems. We used interactive writing to complete the poem ‘Where To?. We heard our ‘q’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth, and throat, made our ‘q’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We had recess. We worked more on our color by shape activities. The AM class attended the Read-aThon assembly and had library. The PM class did shared reading of several spider stories. Tuesday We greeted each other, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We read My Friend Is So Fun! and Waiting Is Not Easy! by Mo Willems. We heard Newsminutes presentations. The AM class had a fire drill. We heard our letter ‘z’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat, made our ‘z’ books and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We did shared reading and read From Seed to Pumpkin and My First Halloween. We did a Time for Kids – Pumpkin Season. We did our October Writing Sample. We had recess. We read Bear In a Square and There’s a Square and started a color by shape activity. Thursday We greeted one another, sang ‘God Bless America’, said our class promise and did calendar. We subitized ten frames to 5, counted backwards from 20 and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We did shared reading and read Bats Around the Clock and did a Time for Kids – Life in the Dark about nocturnal animals. The AM class did shared reading of several spider stories. The PM class had library. We had recess, our costume parade and our Harvest Party. One side is a syllable sheet and the other is to tally various shapes. They can pick any room in the house to look for those shapes. If they forget how to tally you can prompt them with “1-2-3-4across”.
