S E P T E M B E R 4 T H 2 0 1 5 What’s new in Room 216? MRS. O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z We continued to think about place value this week in math. We practiced writing numbers in different ways. Can you show someone at home how to draw a model of the number: thirty five thousand, two hundred and seventeen? How would you write that number in standard form and expanded form? Find “Mr. R’s Place Value” songs and “The Place Value Story” on You Tube - show your best dance moves to the songs! We have been practicing spelling and recognizing the “No Excuse” words. “No Excuse Words” are a list of 30 words that all 3rd graders should know how to read and spell. Tell someone about our: word scavenger hunt, a game called “Dress the Person” and show them how to play spelling tic-tac-toe! nnn We began a book called The Quirks: Welcome to Normal. We made a character chart to help us remember/comprehend details about the characters in the book. Can you remember the magic powers/ “quirk” of Molly, Penelope, Grandpa, Finn and Bree? Draw a picture of each character! Upcoming Events &Reminders: SCHOOL PICTURES: Fall Picture Day for students is Wednesday, September 9th. PINNEYPALOOZA: This community event will be held on the playground of our school from 5:30-8:00 on Friday, September 11th.
