Reading/Language Arts Newsletter September 28 – October 2, 2015 Text: Fairy Tale Helping Dogs Reading/Writing Skills: I can answer/ask questions and give supporting evidence. I can classify key details under headings to determine the main idea. I can write an informational essay. I can use context clues to help determine the meaning of words and/or phrases. I can use information gained from illustration and words in the text to demonstrate understanding. I can write an opinion essay to prove my understanding of how wolves are perceived. Homework- Mon., Tues., Wed. and Thurs. Test - Tuesday English skills: I can identify compound subjects. I can break words into syllables. I can use editing skills to improve my writing. I correctly spell words with common spelling patterns.(review of vce) I can use phrases (prepositional and adverb phrases) to improve my writing. Spelling Skills: There will be no spelling this week due to Reading and Math Common Assessments on Wednesday and Thursday and the field trip on Friday. This week is Homecoming week. We will be dressing up every day. Monday – Patriotic day (red, white & blue) Tuesday – Dress up like old folks Wednesday – Camo day Thursday – 60s, 70s, or 80s Friday – Spirit day – Wear your field trip shirt or favorite red raider colors. **Show your Raider spirit and participate**** Vocabulary Words (Be able to use these words in sentences.) loyal, nature, therapy, and volunteer Important news: Field Trip to Buffalo Park is this Friday. Reading Common Assessment will be given Wednesday starting at 8 am. Please make sure your child is on time. Parents please make sure your child is doing their homework nightly. They have Reading and Spelling EVERY NIGHT. A signature is required for Reading DAILY. It is very important!
