What’s new in Room 216?
MRS. O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS
z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z
In Reading Workshop we talked about the literal and
nonliteral meanings of words and phrases in a nonfiction
article about banjos. We listened to some banjo music as
well! We also used context clues to figure out the meaning
of challenging words in the passage. Tell someone at home
what the literal meaning of this phrase is: “ Let’s follow the
long and bumpy road the banjo traveled.”
“Queen Kendall” & her dog
Griffin showed us some tricks
this week!
In Writing Workshop we continued to think about using
a variety of sentence structure in written work. We
practiced writing compound sentences and talked about
what a “conjunction” is. We used the word FANBOYS to help
us remember conjunctions that we can use in our writing.
Can you remember what FANBOYS stands for?
In Math Workshop we continued to think about
fractions. We practiced locating & labeling fractions on a
number line and talked about mixed numbers (numbers
that have a whole number and a fractional part.) Can you
draw a line that is separated into 6 equal parts and label
each part with the correct fraction?
Kendall was busy surveying
her friends at recess!

In Social Studies we continued to study Economics! We
talked about the terms: budget and expenses. We are
reading the book The Get Rich Quick Club. Tell someone at
home the main idea of the book. What is the club’s
expenses and income right now?
