O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z In Reading Workshop we talked about the literal and nonliteral meanings of words and phrases in a nonfiction article about banjos. We listened to some banjo music as well! We also used context clues to figure out the meaning of challenging words in the passage. Tell someone at home what the literal meaning of this phrase is: “ Let’s follow the long and bumpy road the banjo traveled.” “Queen Kendall” & her dog Griffin showed us some tricks this week! In Writing Workshop we continued to think about using a variety of sentence structure in written work. We practiced writing compound sentences and talked about what a “conjunction” is. We used the word FANBOYS to help us remember conjunctions that we can use in our writing. Can you remember what FANBOYS stands for? In Math Workshop we continued to think about fractions. We practiced locating & labeling fractions on a number line and talked about mixed numbers (numbers that have a whole number and a fractional part.) Can you draw a line that is separated into 6 equal parts and label each part with the correct fraction? Kendall was busy surveying her friends at recess! nnn In Social Studies we continued to study Economics! We talked about the terms: budget and expenses. We are reading the book The Get Rich Quick Club. Tell someone at home the main idea of the book. What is the club’s expenses and income right now? Upcoming Events &Reminders: SPRING PICTURE DAY: Spring Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19th. 3rd GRADE MUSIC PROGRAM: Mark your calendars... The 3rd Graders will be performing in an annual Spring Program on Thursday, April 21 at 7PM. Mrs. Casto will be sending out additional information soon! SPRING AIR TEST: The 3rd Grade will be taking the state math AIR assessment on Tuesday, April 26th and Wednesday, April 27th. NO HOMEWORK: There will be no homework over Spring Break: March 21st - March 25th. Enjoy!
