O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z In Reading Workshop we spent time using text features (headings, titles, subtitles, bullet points/information in a list and visual aids to help us understand a topic. We read an informational passage about the purpose and use of a hand lens. Can you write a sentence that would explain the main idea of this selection? PARENTS ROCK! Thanks so much for making sure your child was well rested and ready for the CogAt test this week. Many of the students talked about discussions your family had about the practice test we did in class on Tuesday. Your continued support is AWESOME! nnn In Writing Workshop we continued to apply a variety of sentence structure to our writing. We practiced coming up with “Rubber Band” sentences! These are single sentences that can answer: who/which, when, what kind and where about a given topic. Make a “Rubber Band Sentence” for this statement: The dog barked. In Math Workshop we continued to think about dividing however, we extended this to not only include diving objects into equal groups, but dividing objects/models into equal parts. We worked on associating models, symbols and words to fractional parts of a whole region. Can you tell someone at home what these words mean: numerator, denominator and unit fraction. In Social Studies we continued to study Economics! We talked about the needs and wants of a community. We made a list of the services and goods that we thought were needs and wants for our community, Dublin - Ohio.
