O’CONNOR’S 3RD GRADE CLASS z Ask A 3rd Grader In Our Class About... z “Queen Claire” showed us a map she used while she was at the Harry Potter theme park in Disney! Claire and Max took time to enjoy the sunshine while visiting with our class on Tuesday! nnn In Reading and Writing Workshop we are studying elements in an opinion essay and/or text. We read the book: I Wanna Iguana and wrote an essay about the convincing facts the main character, Alex, gives his mother for why he should be allowed to have a pet iguana. We compared and contrasted this genre of writing to other projects we have done throughout the year. Tell someone at home about the opinion essay we worked on as a class. In Math Workshop we continued to think about fractions. We practiced: comparing fractions with the same numerator but different denominators, adding and subtracting fractions with common denominators, how to find the number of objects in a fractional part of a set, reasoning skills as they pertain to the actual size of a fraction and understanding that two fractions are equivalent (equal) if they are the same size. Which is bigger 1/4 or 1/3? Draw a model to show how you know. In Social Studies we continued to study Economics. We talked about how to create a business plan that would successfully produce, market and sell products. Another hot topic during this discussion was how and when to borrow money as well as the cost of borrowing money (paying interest.) Tell someone at home about your business plan to sell a product made with “cricket flour!” Upcoming Events &Reminders: SPRING PICTURE DAY: Spring Picture Day is scheduled for Tuesday, April 19th. 3rd GRADE MUSIC PROGRAM: Mark your calendars...The 3rd Graders will be performing in an annual Spring Program on Thursday, April 21 at 7PM.
