Welcome to 8 th grade Social Studies! Mrs. Albert, Mrs. Heath & Mr. O’Neal will be taking you through early U.S. History. We will focus our studies on several major themes, including: ü Colonization by European countries ü American Revolution–causes &consequences ü Early forms of US government ü Successes and struggles of a New Nation ü Westward Expansion ü Civil War – causes and consequences ü Reconstruction following the Civil War ü Financial literacy How will you be graded? 10% will be based on the PROCESS you go through to learn. This process includes: quality of products created, communication of ideas (participation), collaboration with peers, and preparation for class. 90% will be based on your MASTERY OF THE 8 th GRADE SS CONTENT – shown by your assessments, which will include mastery checks and projects.
