Looking for something fun for this summer? Go ahead and get dramatic. TANTRUM THEATER SUMMER WORKSHOPS 2016 MASK/PHYSICAL THEATER Ages 14 –18 June 13 – June17 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Scioto High School $175.00 This workshop is a series of games, exercises, and improvisations exploring one of the most ancient tools of theatre, the mask. A mask, whether it’s a paper bag with a face drawn on it, an exaggerated three-dimensional head, or a simple red clown nose, reveals as much as it hides. Covering the face accentuates body language and non-verbal communication skills, sparks imagination, heightens stage presence, and unleashes a sense of play — qualities that apply to creative problem solving and self-presentation in life as well the arts. By using a disguise of sorts, masks allow students to take risks onstage and overcome stage fright and self-consciousness. The workshop culminates in small groups devising their own material and learning collaborative techniques. STAGE COMBAT Ages 14 –18 June 22, 23 & 24 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Jerome High School $150.00 A three-day intensive covering the basics of safe, effective fighting for the theater. The course is taught by a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors. Day One will focus on Unarmed techniques with an emphasis on partnering and safety. Day Two will be an exploration Single Sword fundamentals and will end with the addition of Daggers to introduce two-handed fighting styles. Day Three will begin with Quarterstaff instruction and will culminate in rehearsals for scenes in each stage weapon style. The final performance and the end of Day Three will highlight the work of the students over the duration of the workshop. Parents are encouraged to attend. The work is for students dedicated to improving their acting skills. Participants must be willing to work hard for three challenging days of stage combat. Athletic clothing is required. TANTRUM’S CHILDREN THEATER ENSEMBLE Ages 6 –13 July 25th – July 29th 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Jerome High School $175.00 This creative collaboration between children of diverse ages is designed to excite, challenge and inspire young actors.
