Chabot College February 1996 Course Outline for Theater Arts 40 INTRODUCTION TO TECHNICAL THEATER Catalog Description: 40 - Introduction to Technical Theater 2 units Introduction to technical production of theater; scene construction and painting, and organization for production; laboratory experience in preparing plays for public performance. 1 hour lecture, 3 hours laboratory. Expected Outcomes for Students: Upon completion of the course, the student should: 1. understand how to organize, staff, and coordinate the technical production of a play from preliminary meetings to final production; 2. develop a practical awareness of the techniques employed in the construction, painting, rigging and shifting of theatrical scenery; 3. have a basic appreciation for the styles of stage craft and a working knowledge of design and construction graphics.
