JOB DESCRIPTION POSITION: Department: Health Education Intern Center for Health Education & Promotion/Student Health Service Reports To: Coordinator, Center for Health Education & Promotion Date: 5/10 A. Position Overview A full time health education intern is responsible for providing leadership for the development, implementation, and assessment of health education and health promotion programs for the university community in cooperation and collaboration with other university departments. We aim to empower students to take active roles in their health and wellness. B. Essential Functions Participate in and encourage development of interdepartmental programs in health education to meet the needs of the changing college campus. Establish contact with voluntary and private agencies to encourage assistance with preventive health education programs for Marquette University students. Serve as a resource for Marquette University faculty, staff, and students. C. Duties and Responsibilities Under supervision, the Health Education intern will: Coordinate outreach projects that promote health, and wellness education program activities Assess and evaluate programs, perform research on relevant topics, and revise presentation materials as appropriate Present lectures and training to groups and/or individuals, as appropriate Participate in the development of marketing and promotional goals and strategies, as appropriate Serve as a health promotion resource person to campus community Serve on taskforces and committees as assigned Perform additional job-related duties as assigned Addendum: Health Education Intern will have opportunity to sit on and collaborate with the Employee Wellness Committee in effort to strengthen programmatic initiatives, provide recommendations, and partner with existing initiatives. D. Qualifications Near completion of undergraduate degree, preferred, in community health education, public health, education, health promotion or closely related field of study On track to complete CHES certification Working knowledge and application of primary prevention, theory based practice, program planning, research/evaluation methods, assessment, group dynamics, and collaborative team work. Working knowledge and application of Healthy Campus 2010, Standards of Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education, ACHA National College Health Assessment, CAS Standards. Excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills Time Commitment: 37.5 hours per week. Flexibility to work some potential evenings and weekends periodically and to adjust work assignments accordingly to meet the changing needs of the Center An understanding of work in the culture of a private, Catholic, Jesuit institution E.
