Communications

The curriculum consent agenda was approved at the Senate meeting. ASCRC Chair
Bill Borrie reminded the Senate that the December meeting is the last opportunity for
Level II proposals to be forwarded to the Board of Regents in order to be available
next autumn.

There will be no meeting next week.
Business Items

The Science Curriculum Consent agenda appended was approved.

The Professional Schools Curriculum items appended below were approved. A
response is still pending from HHP. The Curriculum and Instruction program
modification requires additional justification considering the Graduate Schools policy
requiring 36 credits for a nonthesis Master’s. Also CSD will be notified that only 6
thesis credits can count towards a Master’s degree according to Graduate School
policy.

LING 572, Generative Syntax, was approved as a new co-convening course.

The Council will be sent the Level I proposal for a new Political Science track in
Nonprofit Management for discussion at the next meeting.

The Council discussed the draft program review document for Wildlife Biology. Several
editorial edits and additional recommendations were suggested in terms of quantifying the
cause of attrition and needed assessment of student mentoring. The new guidelines for the
self- study include a section on advising and mentoring. Professor Sprang will revise the
draft.
Large or diverse programs have the option to request more than one reviewer. In this case
the program matched Academic Affairs’ funds to bring in a second reviewer.
The Council’s review serves to call attention to what is unattended and to underscore issues
that need to be explicit if they are to be underscored Interim Associate Provost Hinman
questioned whether departments have access to assessment best practices, similar to the
Council’s procedure on graduate increments.
The meeting was adjourned at 1: 00 PM.
