Business Items:

The General Education Committee Chair Nadia White presented the general education
consent agenda appended below. ASCRC approved. Sixteen one-time-only approvals are
for Global Leadership Initiative Experimental Courses. There were seven new courses, ten
renewals (hold overs from last spring’s rolling review of Expressive Arts, Ethics and Human
Values, and Social Science and Behavioral Studies), and five removals of Social Science
designation. Three courses were not approved as sufficiently meeting the broad intellectual
foundation of the General Education program (emphasizing breadth, context, and
connectedness), or the specific criteria and/or learning goals of the applicable General
Education group. This coming spring Mathematics, Historical and Cultural and Natural
Science Groups are scheduled for review. The deadline memo was sent to chairs on
November 15th. Subcommittee members noted that the learning outcomes and criteria for the
American and European and Indigenous and Global perspective will be reviewed and revised
in the coming academic semester.

The pending items from Humanities were not ready for approval.

The following items from Social Science were approved.

The Science consent agenda appended below was approved. Adequate clarification was
received with regard to the DBS Teaching Assistant and Tutor courses. The Electronics
Technology program withdrew its request to remove T-credits from its courses until the
working group has made a recommendation. Catalog copy is pending for the Energy
Technology certificate.

The Education and Fine Arts consent agenda appended below was approved. Many items
are still pending follow-up responses.

It was identified that a clarification to the curriculum change Course Form will be needed to
indicate a syllabus should be appended when a change in the number of credits is requested.

ASCRC approved the edit to the Writing Course Transfer Equivalency Appeal Guidelines
(202.50.5) requested by ECOS. It will be presented as an information item at the December
Faculty Senate meeting. The third requirement was revised so that it was clear the papers
either came from the equivalent course or subsequent courses.

The Writing Committee requested that ASCRC consider implementing an attribute or
identifier on writing courses for academic planning and transcript purposes. ASCRC will
consider this issue in the spring.

ASCRC is willing to consider a special spring review for prerequisite changes with the hope
that the prerequisite definitions/ enforceability guide is available to send out with the
deadline memo.
The meeting was adjourned at 3:43 PM.
