Justification: How does the course fit with the existing curriculum? Why is it needed? Are there curricular adjustments to accommodate teaching this course? Complete for UG courses. (UG courses should be assigned a 400 number). Describe graduate increment (Reference guidelines: http://www.umt.edu/facultysenate/committees/grad_council/procedures/gradIncrement.aspx ) Fees may be requested only for courses meeting specific conditions determined YES by the Board of Regents. The practicum aspect of the consent of instructor course will require substantial computer use and supplies for student us. We do not have a budget line item for such material and supplies, so we ask for a lab fee. 1. Current course information at it appears in 2. Please check (X) space provided. to UG. Reference guidelines at: A 8-10 page research proposal addressing a http://www.umt.edu/facultysenate/committees current global change problem/issue, focusing /grad_council/procedures/gradIncrement.aspx on physical processes is required. The (syllabus required in section V) proposal will meet all guidelines of the National Science Foundation and be developed on the official NSF Fastlane or Grants.gov websites. Students can develop a proposal individually or form small research groups. The individual/group will present their proposal to the class for evaluation and approval/disapproval for “funding”—the class will act as the “NSF” review panel. This will give graduate students experience in developing and “selling” a research idea and undergraduates experience in evaluating the science of global change. 5. Other programs affected by the change NONE 6. Justification for proposed change This is an update of U GEOS 382 to UG GEOS 482 that will allow both upper division undergraduate and graduate students access to a course on the physical science basis of climate change.
