UG 471 Writing Women’s Lives 3 cr. Same as LS 471 and WGS 471. Offered intermittently. Consent of
instructor required. Upper-division writing-intensive seminar in women’s history. Students will write
an original research paper based on primary source materials.
Justification: How does the course fit with the existing curriculum? Why is it needed?
This course offers students who have previously taken lecture courses or reading seminars in women’s
history the opportunity to conduct original research in the field. It is one of several new courses designed to
fulfill the department’s new writing requirement for majors. It also serves graduate students interested in
women’s history.
