Students experience the rigors and develop the skills required of technicians in touring theatre, maintaining integrity of all production elements through three months of intensive travel and varying venues. Students who are hired to tour with Montana Repertory Theatre’s national production as crew members need a course specifically addressing their distinctive discipline. Course Description: This course is designed for students working as technicians on tour with the Montana Repertory Theatre. Students will serve in a variety of technical capacities under real life touring conditions in assorted venues across the United States. Students will travel with the company setting up, running and striking the production on a daily basis for the length of the tour. Students will work cooperatively with professional technicians, stage managers and actors from the rehearsal process through the final strike. Course Objectives: The objectives of this course include an ability to work under intense theatre conditions created by the inherent rigors of touring theatre. Students will demonstrate their ability to think and act under pressure and make intelligent, safe and informed decisions regarding the daily operations of mounting a touring show in different venues across the country. Students will learn to work independently and with a close knit company, while maintaining professionalism and collaboration throughout the tour. Grading: Grading will be based on the quality of the work, ability to work under pressure, ability to communicate with the company and the local crews, ability to maintain the quality and professionalism of the production throughout the tour, and the ability to think quickly and creatively. Attendance: Students must complete the tour and be an integral, beneficial component of the team throughout the tour. It is required that students will work every day that there is a call. All Theatre & Dance students must have an in-depth knowledge of the practices and procedures outlined in the School of Theatre & Dance Handbook.
