University of Wisconsin-La Crosse - College of Liberal Studies Excellence Awards Policies 2013-2014 Academic Year Faculty & Staff Awards (senior faculty odd spring years, junior faculty even spring years) • Departments can nominate up to one faculty member in each area. • Faculty and staff can only be nominated in one category in a given year. • Faculty and staff may be nominated multiple times but may only receive the award in a given category once. • Members of the committee may not be nominated while serving on the committee. • The committee will review the nominations received. • The committee will send recommendations to the Dean. • The Dean will review the committee’s recommendation and accompanying documents and make the final decision regarding awardees in each category. CLS Student Recognition of Excellence Awards • Departments/programs with 100 or fewer majors (or minors for those departments/programs with no major) can nominate one student. Departments/programs with more than 100 majors can nominate one student per 100 majors. • The Dean will send letters to all student awardees and department chairs/program directors. • All nominees for the CLS Student “Recognition of Excellence” Award are considered awardees. A student may receive the award only once. Inclusive Excellence Award (individuals odd spring years, departments even spring years) Departments and programs can nominate one individual or department each year. Nominees should have made a significant impact on the mission of inclusive excellence at UW-L. Individuals may be nominated multiple times but may only receive the award once. Departments may be nominated multiple times but can only receive the award once every 5 years. Members of the committee may not be nominated while serving on the committee. • The committee will review the nominations received. • The committee will send recommendations to the Dean. • The Dean will review the committee’s recommendation and accompanying documents and make the final decision regarding the Inclusive Excellence Award. Selection of “Recognition of Excellence” Awards Committee The committee shall be made up of the following: Three department chairs/program directors--one from each area, humanities, social science and the School of Arts and Communication The College of Liberal Studies Associate Deans Committee terms are for three years with the Dean appointing one new member each academic year Additional Procedures • The Dean will notify all awardees, nominees and department chairs/program directors of the final award decision. • The Dean will notify the Chancellor and Provost of the final award decisions • Awardees and nominees will be recognized during the spring semester “Evening of Excellence” Ceremony. Awardees will also receive an award certificate. • The committee will send information on all awardees and nominees to the CLS Public Relations Intern for inclusion in articles in CLS newsletters, the Alumnus, the La Crosse Tribune, the CLS web page, UWSystem publications, and other media as appropriate. 20140214
