Rock Ranger District on the Deschutes National Forest is seeking a supervisory wildlife biologist detailer, not to exceed 120 days. This position is located at the Bend/Ft. MAJOR DUTIES The Bend/Fort Rock Ranger District is a large, diverse district with habitat for a variety of wildlife species. Of particular interest are northern spotted owl, Oregon spotted frog, deer, elk and bats. The district has abundant cave resource and habitat types ranging from alpine to sagebrush-steppe. This position is responsible for a complex wildlife organization that supports a number of diverse district activities. The position supervises four permanent and five temporary wildlife biologists and technicians. Program management activities include expenditure tracking, annual reporting, and project management. The selected individual will be responsible for review of NEPA related wildlife documents to ensure compliance with all relevant wildlife laws, policies and direction. They also serve as essential IDT representative representing wildlife resources on various projects and are responsible for providing substantial input during project design and authoring all supporting wildlife documents. The district has several Endangered and Threatened species so consultation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service may be required.
