Summer Job for Second half of summer and weekend work during the first I have two summer jobs that are available. The project: For several years, I have done a subcontract to monitor Karner blue butterflies during the second flight (July to August) in Central Wisconsin. I am looking for two students to do field sampling for this project. The job: Approximately 1 week of transect setup in the month of June (this can be done during the weekends for a first session Treehaven student) A partial to full day of paid training on Karner blue butterfly sampling (this can also be a weekend for a first session Treehaven student) 4-5 weeks of sampling with a start date based on insect emergence (approximately first week of July as the start date but weather controls this). Must be able to work whenever the weather is within correct sampling parameters (if it is raining or too cold or too hot, sampling is not possible…i.e. this means that it may be weekends or weekdays depending on the weather) The pay will be hourly at $12 and will be generally (based on stage of emergence of the organism) from 25-40 hours per week The skill sets needed are: Required Valid driver’s license Ability to tolerate HOT weather and bug pressure in normal field conditions while still completing accurate sampling Ability to walk over uneven ground Preferred Ability to use Trimble Juno/Nomad units with loaded ArcPad software to record data points (a first session Treehaven student will have gained these skills) History of doing line transect sampling for wildlife or insect observation (a first session Treehaven student will have gained these skills) Knowledge of Karner Blue Butterfly biology Please send a resume to Mike Demchik (mdemchik@uwsp.edu).
