Course Description: Explore relevant and current topics on “building prevention-focused communities.” Attendance during various presentations at the Substance Abuse Prevention

Training conference and a follow-up face-to-face meeting are required. Through participation, discussion, reflection, and analysis you’ll create a plan for professional development and application.

Prevention Training objectives: o Learn more about substance abuse prevention tools and strategies o Gain awareness of local policy development o Share lessons learned and success stories o Network and build relationships

Define a thesis or topic question as it pertains to your profession

3.

Explore conference topics to answer your question

4.

Create an action plan to apply what you’ve learned

8 total sessions , including keynotes, during the 2-day conference th b.

A post-conference class meeting is scheduled for Friday, June 12 , from 2:30-4:00 pm in the Acacia Room at Kalahari Resort .

Assignments:

1.

Pre-conference: a.

Read conference brochure, and list the sessions you plan to attend. b.

Formulate one professional question in writing you would like to explore during the conference. Discuss how the answer to this question will impact you, your profession, and/or the organization that you are representing. Be prepared to share this question with the class during the conference follow-up meeting.

Submit electronically (typed in an e-mail) to me prior to the conference (June
