International Students & Scholars Office December 2012 Edition BRAD’S CORNER A few words about the ISSO and how our growth is about you and your success. Martha and I are working together to provide the best and most responsible information and guidance we can to prospective students, their families, and their trusted advisers. We are making more connections around the world and, in the long term, this will mean more and better classmates, networking and lifelong friends for each of you. Melissa and I are collaborating with the goal of enhancing services and support for current students. In this vein, look for announcements on new and enhanced programing on academic, professional and personal matters. Telitha works with all three of us in the critical role of ensuring all who interact with the ISSO are heard and answered. These are big changes and this is very much a learning process for each of us, especially me. We all have a lot to do and I am proud of the ISSO team. Thanks for your patience and support. Looking ahead: we need your help to take ISSO and UW-Stevens Point to the next level. More on that next time. I came all the way from the east side of Saudi Arabia, from a small island called “Tarout.” I’ve been here, in Stevens Point, for almost 2 years, and since then, I’ve been exploring new things every day. I haven’t had any trouble being part of this community as I thought I would have. I just was afraid of not being accepted in here as an international student. However, it was totally the opposite. I’ve been helped since the first day I came to Point. I was impressed by the kindness, the friendliness and gentleness of people, the willingness to help anyone that needs help. And right now, I am part of this family, Point family. ALUMNI PROFILE Fangyuan CHEN Favorite UW-Stevens Point memory: “Dr. Judy Bond is my very important mentor and adviser of all my years at UWSP.
