Articles and By-Laws Committee Meeting

Meeting began at 8:30 a.m.
1. Reviewed Charge 4: Although Faculty Senate By-Laws Section II.F.1 clearly lists complaints
that CGAAF cannot hear, no such listing is given in Section II.F.2 that covers grievances.
CGAAF and SEC feel it might be beneficial to introduce some wording. The Committee had to
wait to discuss this charge until after the CGAAF committee had met and had hearings in the fall
semester.
2. Discussion of Charge 4: Clarifications were provided by Dan D. and Kerrie H. regarding the
kinds of complaints that can be brought before CGAAF (mostly complaints cases, but the
concern related to grievances is the element of “redress” which CGAAF must consider).
3. Revision of language: The Committee feels that it is not its purview to write policy for other
committees, and the discussion revealed that the Articles & By-laws Committee would have to
actually write policy-like language for CGAAF in order to fully address the charge. The decision
was made to have the Chair return to SEC and have SEC decide whether CGAAF should draft
language which the Articles & By-Laws Committee would then implement.
