POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT NO. 16-52AS152 JOB OPENING ID: 11744 Position: Assistant Professor of Sociology Tenure-Track Department: Sociology and Social Work Hayes Hill Title: Assistant Professor (C40NN) Position Description: The successful candidate for this position will teach in the area of family sociology, which includes courses related to marriage/family, childhood/adolescence, family diversity, and other courses, as needs arise. The successful candidate will also be expected to teach freshman-level Introduction to Sociology or Social Problems. Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in sociology or have attained ABD status with an expected degree completion date of August 2017. The Department is seeking a person with a strong commitment to, and demonstrated excellence in, undergraduate teaching. Salary is commensurate with experience. Teaching assignments will typically be 12 credits per semester. Responsibilities also include scholarship and university service. Department/University Description: The UW-Stevens Point Department of Sociology and Social Work has 11 full-time faculty positions (8 in sociology and 3 in social work). We work with over 200 majors and 100 minors in sociology and have recently launched a new major in social work (with approximately 70 accepted majors). We house minors in Criminal Justice, Gerontology, Native American Studies, Small City Analysis, Social Science in Health, and Sociology. The Center for the Small City, which sponsors a biennial national conference on the Small City and Regional Community and a variety of educational workshops and lecture series for students, faculty, professionals, and community members, is affiliated with the department and is under the co-directorship of a sociology faculty member.
