Position: Lecturer in Philosophy

Position Description: AOS: 19th & 20th Century Philosophy. AOC: Open. The Philosophy Department at
UW Stevens Points currently has teaching needs in continental philosophy and in applied ethics (including
but not limited to business ethics, information ethics, and ethics of technology). The successful incumbent
will be expected to teach twelve credit hours each semester including Introduction to Philosophy courses.
A Ph.D. is expected prior to start of appointment. Candidates should send a letter of application, CV,
graduate transcripts, three confidential letters of recommendation (at least one of which should address
teaching potential), a statement on pedagogy, and evidence of teaching excellence (such as peer and student
evaluations, if available, and sample syllabi). To ensure full consideration, complete application materials
must be received by 11:59pm, May 15, 2016. Interviews of shortlisted candidates will be carried out using
Skype shortly thereafter.
Department/University Description: The Department of Philosophy at UWSP offers courses for students
who major in Philosophy, Environmental Ethics, or Religious Studies, and contributes to the General
Education Program of the University.

Qualifications:
Required:
- Ph.D. expected prior to start of appointment.
- Specialization in 19th and 20th Century Philosophy, and ability to teach Introduction to Philosophy
courses.
Preferred:
- Ability to teach continental philosophy and/or one or more areas in applied ethics.
Appointment Date: August 2016
Terms of Employment: This is a 9-month, full-time academic staff appointment. This appointment could
be extended for successive semester dependent on departmental need and meritorious performance.
