Des Moines Register 10-20-06 Dateline Iowa REGISTER STAFF AND NEWS SERVICES Police chief to retire after 38-year career AMES — Ames Police Chief Loras Jaeger is retiring, ending a 38-year career in law enforcement. Jaeger started as a patrol officer in Cedar Falls in 1968, and later held a variety of positions, including police chief. In 1990, he became head of public safety at Iowa State University, and joined the Ames department in 2001. Jaeger has bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Northern Iowa. He also attended the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Va. Jaeger said he anticipates leaving by March 1 and moving to northeast Iowa to be with family.
